What is Runescape
It is a bit late in the day after all my blog posts but I thought it was time I let the non players know roughly what Runescape is about.
Jagex who own Runescape sell mouse clicks!
That is it a multi million pound company based on selling button presses in fact millions of millions of mouse clicks.
Ok it is a bit more involved than that as these clicks are set up with a graphical interface so you can make your click do different things.
Basically you create a character that you will stick with throughout your Runescape career this character through the graphical interface can react with other real players in a Massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG).
The aim of the game is to train your character by doing a large number of set tasks in the skill that you choose, this will enable you to do better things and work with better materials to make things that you and other people value.
There are few requirement to play Runescape, you need a computer with an internet connection a web browser and Java installed on your machine, these are all standard on most windows computers so it can be played almost anywhere there is a computer.
You can play a cut down version of Runescape that is free, this is a large area and has a few quests, this is ideal to see if you like the game, you get to see many aspects of Runescape and can learn how it operates before you invest your hard earned cash and go members.
With members accounts you can pay a minimal fee under ?5 per month and you get access to loads of extra click opportunities and different colours to click on.
The members area is huge and there are many more skills for your character to train on more quests and lots of ways to make training your character easier.
There is a way of buying bulk clicks in the form of Runescape GP for real life money, fortunately this is against the rules and there is a good chance of having your account banned, the thought of cheating at a game is defeating the object of the game, if you don’t want to click aimlessly for hours don’t play the game.
This doesn’t paint a very rosy picture of the game does it? the Power of Runescape is its motivation to do well to better yourself and have ways to show your fellow players that you are good at doing things.
Beware though this game is very addictive if you can get past the initial frustration of being a new character (Newb) and not being able to do much the pressure and motivation to do well is great and you may well spend longer than you want to playing it.
Now parents your children may want you to read this bit extra carefully.
Runescape is educational, you can learn a great deal from Runescape, many parents start to play Runescape because their children play it, I personally got my son into it because I could see the benefits in playing it.
How can it be educational?
You learn social skills how to speak to people.
You learn to follow rules and the consequences for breaking them.
You learn time management, spending a certain amount of time earning GP and certain amount of time enjoying it.
You learn basic security, keeping your account safe, passwords and using a bank pin.
You learn to watch out for yourself, there are scammers on Runescape after your items, just like real life, where would you prefer your children to find this out Runescape or In the real world?
You learn advanced arithmetic, buying and selling goods often in millions of gp, calculating costs and profit margins.
You learn map reading and navigation.
These are just a few of the benefits of Runescape, I could go on and on listing the benefits.
There are a number of dangers associated with Runescape, most of these can be overcome by making sure your children never give their personal information in game, this is against the rules and can result in a ban for asking for personal information.
Runescape is not only for the young, it can be and is great fun for all generations of players, I am 40 I have friends who are the same age and some teenagers, there are people play who are in their sixties and still get a great deal out of the game and my son who is 8.
People play for different reasons, some like to have a high combat level to kill high level monsters for great rewards, some play and don’t care about levels and just want to hang with friends, some like to just train skills and remain at a very low combat level just to show that they can.
Sometimes there are taunts about each others way of training, again this is a learning opportunity, either learning to ignore and carry on, learning to discuss (argue) and put their case across with the hope of making the other person understand, or insulting and flaming with the chance of a black mark or a ban for offensive language.
Runescape is a powerful tool to help young people learn about people and life around them in a safe environment.
As with all things it is still a good idea to keep a grasp on reality and visit the real world occasionally, it is amazing how many young people understand this and will take time out for study and friends.
Barrows is prayer not macho enough
I went to Barrows today, haven’t been for a while so thought I would stay until my next mage level (97) not far to go.
Main drops half key (loop) and Dharoks Helm and Veracs skirt in about 25 runs as normal using my barrows strategy there were quite a few people there and I was surprised how few were doing it the easy way.
The easy way is to use prayer and wear mage armour with magic dart or better magic combat spell, in my eyes magic dart is better or as good as any other spell including ancients and wave spells at barrows.
A lot of people were wearing melee armour and whips and all sorts of melee weapons, the only melee weapons suitable for barrows are dds or full veracs even those are unpredictable, you may get a quick kill one time and take ages the next.
The thing that really tickles me is the people in full melee armour using magic dart and not using prayer, there was a rumour that magic dart was not affected by your armour or equipment mage bonus, this is a false rumour but some people swear by it, the surprising thing is some high level players believe it as well.
Using Magic dart with melee armour reduces the amount of times you hit although it does not effect your max hit, so wearing melee armour killing the monster takes longer, this increases the amount of times you can get hit by your monster and the greater amount of food to eat.
This method is unpredictable, you may not get hit or you may get hit several times in a row, you may eat all your food or you may eat none.
Wearing mage gear you will normally kill the monster quicker so get on to your next brother quicker, using prayer you will not need food (Except maybe Verac) so you save expense and inventory space and you do not need to constantly be on the ready to eat.
Several times I went in today and saw player half kill their barrows brother using magic dart and melee armour, I go in and kill mine before they do.
MAGIC DART IS AFFECTED BY MAGE EQUIPMENT BONUS!!!
Perhaps its me I just like an easy life I don’t need to prove im matcho, prayer and mage gear for me.
before someone says it Ahrim is easiest to range, maging him can take an eternity.
And while im here just to let you know I got 99 range eventually, I got 99 at spiritual warriors.
At long last 99 range at spiritual warriors
Perhaps I should go and get my range cape
And what the hell I also got 82 Herblore.
I got 82 herblore but couldnt screenie so here is my 81 piccy, If anyone has a screenie of the 82 herblore and the super weapon poison ++ screen please let me know.
Addition to initial post
I got 97 magic, I did about 50 barrows runs and got in total Dharoks Helm, Veracs skirt, Veracs helm, Dragon Med Helm, 3 half keys (all loops) as well as the usual runes and bolt racks, I got 170k mage xp from barrows and ended up with more runes than I started and about 2m worth of drops, although its not quick for mage xp it can be very profitable.
Easy ways to make money and level up.
Find monsters that are a little lower than your level, if you are just starting out you can train on the goblins that are north of the Lumbridge castle.
If you are level 6 or higher (not hard to do) go to the BarbarianVillage. It’s the town west of Varrock that has a bunch of level 10s walking around. Anyway, in the center of the town there is a hole. Go down the hole and then head south through the Gate of War, you’ll be asked a question, answer it, go through and you should find yourself in a room full of goblins. now get to work killing goblins. Sometimes they drop bronze full helms which sell for 14-28gp each. When you don’t have anymore room for anymore helms go back out the door you came in through, up the ladder and into the house near the hole with a guy inside named Peska, trade all your helms to him for $$$. As you get higher levels you can go farther into the Stronghold and eventually get the rewards. There are 4 levels in the Stronghold.
if you want to make money, get your minig up to 20 at the Dwarven Mines (NorthEast of Falador) while you get your mining level up you can train on the level 10 dwarves. After you get your mining up to 20 go out to Al-Kharid and go North until you get to the mine. There you can mine silver And while you wait for silver you can train on the scorpions. Then go to either the Furnace and Smelt the silver into bars or go sell the ore at the store.
(Not recommended until you are at least level 35) A great way to make money AND get your Prayer up is to go to Varrock, then go out through the west and go directly north. After a while you will get to a graveyard, go NorthEast around the graveyard until you see skeletons. Among there are Big Bones which give you 15 prayer xp instead of 4. Attack the skeletons and pick up Big Bones, then either go back out of the wild and bury the Big Bones or go to a town and sell them for 100g each.
Another way is to do quests! Vampire slayer, Demon Slayer, and Dragon Slayer all give you plenty of xp.
Tired of being poor in Runescape?
In Runescape, it is much harder to make money in f2p than in p2p, Members have countless ways to make easy gold because of their high stats, more skills and more places to visit while the others work hours to get some decent cash. However, there are some easy ways to make money in Runescape. I will list the top five ways here.
AIR-RUNNING
This is probably the easiest way to make money in Runescape since it requires no skills at all and you can make 2000g per minute with it. To begin get your hands on 25 rune essence, either mine it or buy it. Then go to the air altar in world 16, You will notice that the place is very crowded. This is the world 16 aircraft company, the biggest air company in Runescape. You will see that some people are shouting “open 2k”, trade with that person and offer him the 25 essence, he with give you 2000 gold and 25 noted essence. Take the essence to the nearest bank, un-note it, and trade it with another person at the air altar for another 2000g and noted essence. Repeat these steps as much as you want. You will make a ton of money soon.
MINING ESSENCE
Mining and selling essence is a slower way of making money but it gives you some mining experience. To begin with complete the rune mysteries quest, Then go to Varrock in any world between 1 and 8. Go to Aubury’s rune shop and have him teleport you to the essence mines, mine the essence until your inventory is full and then store the essence in the north bank. Repeat these steps until you have 100 essence, take the 100 essence out of your bank (noted) and start shouting “selling ess”, the people there are usually desperate to buy essence so you will get some trade offers soon. Never sell your essence for less than 30g each, You can get at least 3000g for every 100 essence you mine.
NEWT EYES
This is a very profitable business but requires some patience and some starting cash. Get 3k cash and go to the magic shop in port Sarim, the shop sells newt eyes for 3g each, fill your inventory with them and store them in the draynor bank. Keep buying eyes until you have 1k eyes stored in your bank. Now go to Varrock in any world between 1 and 8 and you can sell 1k eyes to people for as much as 250k. This is because anyone who is raising his herblore skill doesn’t have enough time to go back and forth from the bank and will be willing to spend that much money for something so cheap. For those who dont know, Newt eyes are used for making potions.
STRONGHOLD OF SECURITY
For those who don’t know, the stronghold of security has 10k waiting for any player who has enough time to go there. To go to the stronghold, go to the barbarian village and go down the hole that is in the mining site. The stronghold has 4 levels, each level with more dangerous monsters than the last one. You’ll need some good armour, food and defence level to survive the monsters inside. The first level gives 2k, second one gives 3k, third one gives 5k and the fourth one gives some fancy boots. Its a good place to level up for f2p.
MAKING RUNES
It is actually possibly for f2p to make lots of money by runecrafting. Runes sell for 20g each in world 1-8 Varrock. Not only you will gain lots of mining and Runecrafting experiernce, but you will make lots of money. The higher your runecrafting level gets, the more runes you will be able to make, and the more runes you make, the more money you earn. Once you have a lot of money, you can buy the essence from other players instead of mining it and even start your own rune business. Just stay away from body runes, they may give more experience but no one buys them so you’ll just waste time.
Now that you have your information, log on to Runescape and start making some gold!
Here you can learn how to make millions of GP starting from scratch.
If you have nothing go to the chickens in Lumbridge. Kill chickens until you have about 1k feathers , sell them for 7-10 each. Then you have about 7k-10k. Buy feathers for 5 each, until you have used all your money. When you have used all of your money sell the feathers for 7-10 each again, do this until you have about 50k-100k.
If you have 50k buy nature runes for 250each, if you spend all 50k of nature runes you should have 200. Sell the 200 nature runes for 300gp-320gp each then you should make 10k and you will be at 60k do the same thing until your have about 100k.
When you have 100k it is a lot easier to merchant. All you have to do now is merchant coal or iron even. Buy coal for 150each with your 100k that should get your around 666. Sell the coal for 200GP+. Now you should be at 133k+. You should do that until you get 200k.
Now you need to buy steel bars for 600 each. With 200k that should get you 333. Sell those for 650 each now you will be at 216k. If you are a member make cannon balls. With 333 steel bars you can make 1332 cannon balls and sell them for 200 each. Now you should have around 266k. Personally I just merchant the coal until I have about 600k then I buy 1k steel bars and make them into 4k cannon balls and sell the cannon balls for 800k. So while you smith a lot you gain much experience.
Now that you know how to merchant just try to buy a lot of runes or ores or what ever you want at a low price and then sell them for more.
Enjoy the higher positions of Runescape to the fullest
Introduction
As I have already explained this guide is for the experienced and high level players. I have composed this guide from over 2 years experience on the game and have decided to release this guide to you.
The secrets
Mining, requirements, 55 mining, 50 smithing and patience! Firstly, go into the dwarf mines and over to the iron rocks and mine 500 iron ore, going backward and forwards to the bank. This should take about 1-2hours (depending on your level.) Then go over to any coal rocks, and mine 1,000 coal ore, please be patient; this should take 5-7 hours depending on your level and the amount of people there. Now, more patience, put everything into your bank (armour, everything) and withdraw 10 iron and “all coal” then go to the furnace. Smelt these into steel bars. Keep repeating this until all of your iron and coal ores are used up. You should now have 500 steel bars. You may now proceed to world 1 if you do not wish to continue mining to get more to sell. Go to Falador’s east bank. Outside you can say selling steel bars 600gp each, or there is always someone buying them (it may be 550each though) 500 steel bars is roughly 300k.
To make even more money from mining you can try to better way. This requires 60 mining, 50 smithing, and 43 magic. Enter the mining guild and mine mithril rocks. Then mine some coal. Cast superheat item on the mithril ore to make mithril bars. You can normally get 20 – 22 bars per inventory (after mined all coal and mithril smelted and did again) Bank these. Repeat quite a lot of times. I normally get 500 before I start selling. With your 500 mithril bars, go to world 1 and sell at the same place for 1500gp each, some people will only buy 1400gp each. You will make about 700k-750k!
Crafting is a good way. To craft for profit you need 50 crafting, 49 magic and 40 mining. Firstly you can buy rubies 1500gp each at Falador’s East bank in world 1, or u can mine gold until you get a healthy supply of them I prefer to buy. Mine a lot of gold ore and smelt them into bars. Then make ruby amulets. And enchant. They u can go to Varrock west bank and sell. Normally people purchase 2,000gp-2,500gp each.
Results
A healthy rate of income is what is made from these techniques. The more you do it, to more cash you get!! You also should have got quite a few mining, smithing, mage and crafting levels by the end of all of that with about 1million gp on runescape!!
Conclusion
By the time you have finished using the techniques in this guide; you should be a millionaire and not be a middle ranked person anymore. It will take time to finish but you won’t become a millionaire over night, no matter what anyone says. I hope I have helped you and you can be like me, an expert to non-member Runescape!
Summoning the early stages
Runescape has eventually launched its new skill summoning.
My first opinion of summoning it is it looks nice, I think it should have been called pets because I cant see me using it to any great extent, it seems to be more trouble than its worth, I reserve judgment until I have tried it a bit more but the idea of recharging summoning as well as prayer sounds like a pain, Jagex can I have a summoning post in my house please?
This is the quest completion scroll after completing Wolf Whistle, I can now practice summoning.
I had a play yesterday and got 20 levels and 128 combat, I have seen many 128’s and no 129’s I guess there will be some but I haven’t seen any, getting level 20 summoning is quick and easy using the 275 charms that you are given on the quest, doing the quest takes you up to level 4 summoning, killing the wolves on white wolf mountain is the closest place to get wolf bones, I killed werewolves at Canafis because the other wolves were having a hard time from the lower level players, while in Canafis I bought the raw chickens from the shop next to the bank. as soon as I could make deadfowl pouches, I made them until I could make the ones with the snails, bought some snails from Burg de Rott shop and continued until level 20.
Guam and iron ore are used for some of the higher level pouches so watch the price, I anticipate it going very high for a short time before returning to normal as the novelty wears off
Aberrant specters drop charms, this is where I experienced my first bug, the smellies were no longer dropping herbs, I was getting charms one in four kills and just no other drops, it was annoying but soon settled down later and I got my herbs back.
Infernal Mages my next slayer task gave me 48 gold, 5 crimson and 2 green charms, every other drop was a charm so its going to be easy for people who enjoy slayer such as myself.
It is going to be a very dear skill to train, shards cost 50gp and for the really high pouches its going to need over 200 shards per pouch.
The one thing I liked about it is, I can gain several levels in a day instead of several days for a level, it wont stay that way for long but nice to see none the less.
Haven’t been to the RS forums to see the weekly quitter posts but im sure there are some, I can just imagine “Its not f2p so im quitting members to protest” “lets walk around Fally shouting because my dog won’t grow”.
Its expensive, its not very quick to train, it has no visible means of making cash (apart from merchanting), I have been informed that the charms are not tradable so you need to work for this skill not just buy the supplies on GEbay, thats got to be good.
I will try it a bit more and report back here my findings.
Travian online Game
I found Travian through an advert on Runescape.
The initial idea is quite fun, you build a village make troops and kill other villages with well co-ordinated attacks and many not so well co-ordinated attacks, you can build troops to defend your village attack troops on other villages and raid their supplies and bring them back for your own use.
My initial opinion was that Travian is a game of hate, it is not generally friendly like Runescape, the more ruthless players can build big armies and catapults and destroy other players villages, as the game progresses this is quite a common occurrence and many players quit because of it.
You do have the option to join alliances, these are groups of players who help each other out by sharing resources and troops, this is the friendly side of Travian but to be any good in the game you need to be in a good alliance or you will get flattened or farmed (Farmed is when an aggressive player regularly raids your resources).
I have played on the speed server, this game goes on for about 4 months and on the normal server that I have been informed goes on for a year.
Conclusion is that Travian is an unfriendly game, perhaps ideal for the pkers from Runescape when Pkin was abolished recently to make it a more friendly and better game to play.

Making money on Runescape as a VAR
You may wonder what a VAR is, I have only experienced the term VAR used in my early trade of computers sales and servicing, basically it means “value added reseller” the principle is you take a product work with it and sell it for more than you purchased it for, with computers you could buy a computer and sell it on for more with an addition to increase its perceived value, that can be an extended warranty, some bespoke software installed or anything that makes it more valuable to the end user.
You obviously cant add a warranty on Runescape but you can work with items to increase the value, to find a suitable item takes a bit of detective work, there are obvious things like pots, and herbs but if you look carefully there are others.
You need to work out if by adding the service that will increase the value that you can actually make a profit, some things you can clearly make a profit others are not so straight forward, you also need to bare in mind many of these services increase the value because they offer little or no xp but are required by players wishing to save time training skills, you are effectively being paid for your time.
Example time
Buy pots (3) and combine them to pots (4), combining pots into 4 takes time, on Runescape time is money, the time spent combining pots could be spent killing the Bandos boss at god wars, the Kalphite Queen or mith dragons, I will happily pay a premium to not have to combine pots before a trip, the sell price is generally quite a bit more than the 3 dose pot but you need to check at the GE for current prices also make 1 to see if they sell at max medium or bottom price.
Herbs, clean herbs sell for more than grimy, you can buy grimy herbs clean them and sell as clean or you can add them to a vile of water and make even more cash selling as unfinished potions, hight level players (myself included) buy unfinished pots to speed up herblore training, the problem is you need to have the appropriate herblore level to do this but you can get assist from some high level players while you do it.
Crafting, buy dragon hides get them tanned and sell as tanned hides, buy sand and soda ash and sell as molten glass another way of making some good cash.
Buy olive oil and combine to 4 and sell or make into sacred oil and sell, all adds value for each step, you need to check out current prices using the GE to see if the profit is worth your time.
This is donkey work because you are labouring for the higher players but if you need or want money it is a way that is well worth considering, some things you can do in the comfort of the Grand Exchange so you don’t need to keep running to the bank.
There are many things have fun finding them I hope I help you make some good cash.
