In the world of RuneScape, defence (labelled defence in-game) is the skill that determines the amount of base protection that a character has in combat. Naturally, this is supplemented by the equipment that the player wears. However, basic defence actually contributes to the player’s combat level, no matter which of the three combat disciplines they chose.
Defence also determines the quality and type of the armor that a player can equip – from the basic level one bronze armor to the level 80 for the Dungeoneering Shields. Contrary to the norm in other games, the defence level in RuneScape reduces how often you receive less damage, rather than the amount of damage you receive per hit.
Within the game, there are those players who have decided to dedicate themselves to the pursuit of defensive perfection; these members are known as defence Pures. The main attributed factor to fighting defensively is the long drawn-out battles that are exceedingly common for those who specialize in defence.
This main attribute is also the reason why many people dislike training as defence Pures, though there are players who achieve level 99 defence without improving their constitution through the use of Soul Wars and other methods of leveling (such as experience lamps and Penguin Hide and Seek).

How Important is RuneScape Defence?
If the thought of confounding your enemies as they try to hit you appeals to you in any way, or the lure of wearing the toughest, baddest armor around lights a fire within your heart, then you will probably want to look at improving your defence level, and the best way to do this is by using a defensive attack style in combat.
The defensive style of combat is the way in which you train your defence levels. In order to select this battle mode, you need to head to the Combat Styles tab which is just to the left of the Stats tab and then pick the combat style that says “defensive” when you hover over it with the mouse cursor.
Runescape Attack and Strength with Defense
At this point, it should be mentioned that for those of you out there who are uncomfortable with trusting solely to defence to see you through those difficult fights, there is an alternative style: the controlled style, which will give a minor boost to your defence skill. However, the controlled style splits the experience earned between the Attack and Strength skills, as well as defence, so it would be a much more efficient way to level up your defence skill by simply bearing with it and focusing on it. Keep in mind that the higher your defence, the greater the amount of enemy attacks you can block.
If you are planning on playing any sort of melee character within RuneScape you need to have a decently high defence level. After all, if you want to live long enough to dish out the pain, you have to be able to avoid a few hits.
In the interest of fairness, it should be noted that it is possible to play RuneScape from a purely aggressive standpoint and neglect defence completely, and that there are ‘melee- pure’ players within the game world whose defence remains at level one while their Attack and Strength levels go off the charts.
The theory behind this style of play is that between two players of comparable combat levels – one who focused on defence and the other who was a ‘melee-pure’ character – the ‘melee-pure’ character would have a high enough attack level to deal with the defensive player regardless of their defence level, or would quite simply do an extremely high amount of damage despite not hitting as often.
In general, though, most players prefer to train their defence skills to at least level 40 so as to enable the wearing of Rune Armor and so as to have the absolute rudiments of defensive skill. After all, getting hit just isn’t any fun.

The ranged combat style in RuneScape is what allows players to attack monsters and other enemies from a distance using various projectiles. This allows players to attack and then dodge behind an object to avoid damage. Players can also fire over barricades. Those who prefer this combat style may be called archers or rangers. Ranged attacks are most effective against magical attacks, but they are weak against those who use melee.
Different Ranged Attack Styles
There are three different attack styles associated with ranged combat: Rapid, Accurate, and Long-Range. All three do one damage and provide 1.33 hitpoint experience. However, Accurate and Rapid give 4 ranged experience, while Long-Range only gives two. Long-Range, though, also provides two defense experience, while the other two styles do not award any.
Rapid Style allows players to shot projectiles faster than the other two styles. However, a player using the Accurate Style will hit more often. Long-Range allows players to attack from farther away. While training, most players use the Rapid Style because they can defeat enemies more quickly; however, they will also use up more ammunition.
Using Crossbows: Note that equipping a crossbow gives a bonus of 0.2 ranged experience with both Rapid and Accurate Style. For Long-Range, the experience is split between Ranged and Defense.
Why Use Ranged Attacks?
There are several bonuses to using runescape ranged attacks in addition to defeating enemies before they even approach your character. The Ranger armor has some very high magical defense bonuses, plus it gives attack bonuses as well. This helps insure that a ranged attacker will be able to defeat foes who only use magical attacks. Ranged bonuses also increase accuracy, allowing for even those using the Rapid or Long-Range style to hit quite often.
Ranged Weapons
There are a number of different ranged weapons in the game. Here are some of the most common:
» Shortbows – these bows are very quick, but they aren’t as accurate as other bows.
» Longbows – while slower than shortbows, longbows are more accurate.
» Crossbows – crossbows provide a ranged experience bonus. They are very accurate but also very slow. Crossbows are also considered one-handed weapons, so players can equip other items in their left hand.
» Throwing weapons – knives and other throwing weapons are very, very fast, but they aren’t as powerful as other ranged weapons.
» Some weapons are available to members only, including the Dwarf multicannon, the Ogre bow, the Toktz-xil-ul, and the Seercull.
Ranged Armor Sets
Some armor sets are specifically designed for ranged attackers. Many beginning ranged attackers use leather armor since it is both cheap and can be crafted. Another popular armor set is the Snakeskin armor, which can only be used by members. It can be made via the crafting skill using snakeskin. The books and the bandanna are especially popular since they are cheaper than other foot and head pieces.
The most popular ranged armor set is the dragonhide armor. The green dragonhide set is available to free players, although they have to complete the Dragon Slayer quest to use it. Members can use the red, blue, and black dragonhide armor. Players can add fur and gold trim to these armor sets.
Karil the Tainted offered a set of barrows equipment for ranged players as a reward for winning the Barrows minigame. When the full armor set is equipped with Karil’s crossbows, ranged attacks may reduce the enemy’s agility.

The main reason to level fishing is that fishing is profitable. But fishing is not the only way to make gil in this game. There are many other profitable crafts like Alchemy, Woodworking, and Goldsmithing, and most of these are a greater source of income in the highest levels than high level fishing. But these crafts also require huge gil investments in order to level them up to the point where they are highly profitable, while fishing merely requires an investment of time. This makes fishing an ideal craft for new players since they start the game with very little gil, but plenty of time.
BUY FFXI GIL
In addition, with fishing you can actually make significant profits while you skill up, unlike the other crafts in the game in which it’s usually best to separate your skillup sessions from your profit sessions. Also, from what I’ve heard the HQs and failures of other crafts can feel a little like a roller coaster, but fishing is more of a steady climb.
In other words, with fishing you’ll never craft a Haubergon +1, but you’ll never lose a Damascus Ingot either, and you don’t have to dump millions into something before it begins showing returns.
Harvesting, excavation, logging, mining, and farming are also popular ways to make gil, but once you locate the logging/mining/mob spawn points and familiarize yourself with the particular area, you are not guaranteed to make any more profit per hour after your 100th hour harvesting/excavating/logging/mining/farming than you made after your first. But every hour you spend fishing will potentially raise your fishing skill, and a higher fishing skill has the potential to increase your profits per hour. What this means is that every hour you spend fishing can be considered an investment.

Do what about EverQuest 2?
EverQuest 2 (EQ2) is a fantasy MMORPG developed by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). The game features updated graphics and gameplay from its predecessor EverQuest (EQ).
EverQuest 2 is set 500 years after the storyline of the original EQ game, a time where the fantasy world of Norrath has already been stricken by a cataclysmic event that caused most of the world’s civilization to collapse. Thus, in EQ2 only two main cities remain: Qeynos, the citadel of the forces of good, and Freeport, the stronghold of the forces of evil.

One of the more powerful melee weapons in the world of RuneScape is Dharok’s greataxe. It is a part of the Dharok the Wretched’s set of equipment and requires both an attack and strength of 70 to use. When equipped, the greataxe provides the fifth highest strength bonus available in the game and the second highest crush bonus. On the downside, it is a very slow weapon with a speed similar to a two handed sword. This means your opponents are going to get in several hits for each one of yours. Its incredible attach power and crushing attacks, however, make up for this.
Note that Dharok’s Greataxe cannot be made via smithing. It, like all of the Dharok’s set, can only be won from the Barrow’s mini-game.
Requirements:
Must be a member
Must have Strength of 70
Must have an Attack power of 70
Bonuses:
Strength: +105
Crush: +95
Stab: -4
Magic: -4
Ranged: -1
Speed: fairly slow
Use in Conjunction with the Full Dharok’s Set
If equipped as a part of the full Dharok set, players may hit in the high 90s, and some have reported hitting for as much as 110 damage per swing. When wielded with the rest of the set, players also gain access to a special attack. As the player’s hit points decrease, the damage caused by Dharok’s Greataxe increases. When a player is at ten percent of their max health or lower, the weapon will actually do double damage—up to 112 damage points.
Note that when doing the White Guthix Sleeps quest, a character’s abilities will be increased to 255. While this would allow for Dharok’s Greataxe to hit for over 270 damage, the player’s hit points are automatically restored to 255 whenever they get damaged. This means that the player will never get down to ten percent of health, so the greataxe will never do this huge amount of damage.
Degrading
As with all weapons, Dharok’s Greataxe will degrade over time. It will eventually drop from 100 percent to 75 with use, then degrade farther. To repair it, you must visit the Tindel Merchant located in Port Khazard or go to Bob’s Axes in Lumbridge. The price to fix the greataxe will depend on how much it degraded. To repair it from zero will cost 100,000 gold.
Uses of Dharok’s Greataxe
Many woodcutters equip the axe along with the Woodcutting skill cape to both show off their high level woodcutting skill and to look similar to the Woodcutting Tutor character. Note, however, that the greataxe can’t actually be used to cut down trees.
Dharok’s Greataxe is also a favorite weapon for use when battling the TzHaar-Ket and the TzHaar-Xil in the city of TzHaar because of its high strength bonus.
Graphic Updates to the Greataxe
When Dharok’s Greataxe was first introduced to the game, the character held it over his/her shoulder. Then this was changed to holding it with both hands. Then the greataxe was changed back to being held over the shoulder. Due to changing the graphics several times, the weapon actually glitched for a time. During this time, it was held more like the Dragon Longsword.

Changing your stats in RuneScape is no easy feat, especially if you want to do it legally. There are various programs out there that will allow you to change your RuneScape stats as well, plus there are some services that will actively play your character for you.
The Best Way of Changing Your Stats
The best way of changing your character’s stats in the magical world of RuneScape is simply to play the game. As you defeat enemies and accomplish tasks, your character will gain experience and levels. This will naturally make your character more powerful and up his or her stats.
RuneScape is, when it’s all said and done, a game. By skipping over gaining levels and experience, you’re missing out on the key element of RuneScape. The main goal of the game isn’t getting to the highest level or maximum stats but to enjoy playing.
Using a Stat Adjustment Program
However, if you want to max out your stats without actually doing any of the work, you can download a RuneScape stat changer. Generally, you have to purchase these programs, and they’re usually a bit on the pricy side. Once you’ve downloaded them, they give you the ability to hack into the RuneScape server and change your character’s stats to whatever you want.
One very important thing to know about these programs is that many of them include viruses and other harmful things. You should run a virus scanner immediately after downloading the program to make certain there’s nothing harmful hidden in it. Even if the scan turns up negative, be very cautious when using illegal programs like stat changers.
Also note that the Jagex staff (the creators of RuneScape) do not approve of stat changers and will ban your account if they discover you using one.
Allowing Others to Play Your Character
Another way of getting your character’s stats up is to pay another person to play your account. Like the stat changing programs, you can find these services on various websites. However, note that you must give these other players your RuneScape user name and password. This gives them full access to your account, and you never know what they’re going to do. Some may actually level your character, but others may scam you.
Sometimes, these services will level your character to a certain level, while other times you can specify which stats you want increased. Either way, be certain that nothing bad has happened to your account, and immediately change your password after your character’s stats have been increased.
Again, using a stat changing service is just as illegal as using a stat changing program, and Jagex will ban your account if they discover that you’ve done this.
Don’t Risk It
As you can see, the two “easy” ways of gaining stats in RuneScape both carry huge risks. Stat changing programs can infect your computer with many harmful viruses, while hiring other people to play your character can result in your character’s gold and gear being stolen. Both also bring up the risk of having your account banned.
If you truly want to increase your character’s stats, simply play the game. It doesn’t cost you extra money, nor is there any risk to your computer or character.

Today’s update makes a variety of small improvements to RuneScape.
Bigger friends list for members! As a new members benefit, you now get twice as much space on your friend-list. Giving you a total of 200 slots.
Multiple hit-splats during combat. If a player or monster is being attacked by multiple opponents, or is taking damage very rapidly, the game will now show multiple damage indicators at once. This makes it much easier to see how much damage is being dealt. Note: the total damage received is the same, it’s just shown more clearly now.
Npcs better at retreating. We’ve improved the intelligence of the npcs a bit, such that if they are being attacked from beyond the edge of their wander zone, they will run away rather than just standing there stupidly.
Music+sounds work on more machines. We’ve found why the music+sounds sometimes wasn’t working when you select the SUN java plugin. We’re still working on reaching 100% compatibility, but a few more people should find it works for them now.
Fixed dragon-spear special attack. We’ve fixed the bug which meant attacking a player with the dragon-spear special attack didn’t give a pk-skull in the wilderness.

Today we have released an updated version of our RuneScape Windows client.
Use of this alternative client is entirely optional, and it doesn’t add any extra features compared to playing through your web-browser at our website like normal. It does however allow you to play without all that browser clutter, which is particularly useful for low-memory or low-resolution machines.
The client can be found in the new Extra Files section on the front page. Unofficial downloads from other sites may contain malware, so to keep your account safe we recommend you only get the client from www.RuneScape.com

Todays update is just a small one to make a few minor tweaks to the game. Some of the more noticeable changes are:
The stone border around the edge of the game window is now narrower. This is to make the game fit better for people running at 800×600. The actual 3d view area is still the same size however. There is just less wasted space now.
The chat scroll is now slightly brighter, to make chat easier to read.
When you click to use an item, it now has a white outline to show that it is selected.
Fixed several cases where using 2 objects together only worked one way around. (the order objects were clicked in made difference)
Fixed a bug which meant the Iban-staff could be wielded at level 49, despite stating a requirement of 50.
Fixed a couple of digsite bugs where it sometimes didn’t recognise you had the required items.
Fixed a bug with the treasure trail puzzle-box where it occasionally didn’t recognise you had completed it.
Lots of other minor changes and fixes.
