Runescape Ranged

The ranged combat style in RuneScape is what allows players to attack monsters and other enemies from a distance using various projectiles. This allows players to attack and then dodge behind an object to avoid damage. Players can also fire over barricades. Those who prefer this combat style may be called archers or rangers. Ranged attacks are most effective against magical attacks, but they are weak against those who use melee.

Different Ranged Attack Styles
There are three different attack styles associated with ranged combat: Rapid, Accurate, and Long-Range. All three do one damage and provide 1.33 hitpoint experience. However, Accurate and Rapid give 4 ranged experience, while Long-Range only gives two. Long-Range, though, also provides two defense experience, while the other two styles do not award any.

Rapid Style allows players to shot projectiles faster than the other two styles. However, a player using the Accurate Style will hit more often. Long-Range allows players to attack from farther away. While training, most players use the Rapid Style because they can defeat enemies more quickly; however, they will also use up more ammunition.

Using Crossbows: Note that equipping a crossbow gives a bonus of 0.2 ranged experience with both Rapid and Accurate Style. For Long-Range, the experience is split between Ranged and Defense.

Why Use Ranged Attacks?
There are several bonuses to using runescape ranged attacks in addition to defeating enemies before they even approach your character. The Ranger armor has some very high magical defense bonuses, plus it gives attack bonuses as well. This helps insure that a ranged attacker will be able to defeat foes who only use magical attacks. Ranged bonuses also increase accuracy, allowing for even those using the Rapid or Long-Range style to hit quite often.

Ranged Weapons
There are a number of different ranged weapons in the game. Here are some of the most common:

» Shortbows – these bows are very quick, but they aren’t as accurate as other bows.
» Longbows – while slower than shortbows, longbows are more accurate.
» Crossbows – crossbows provide a ranged experience bonus. They are very accurate but also very slow. Crossbows are also considered one-handed weapons, so players can equip other items in their left hand.
» Throwing weapons – knives and other throwing weapons are very, very fast, but they aren’t as powerful as other ranged weapons.
» Some weapons are available to members only, including the Dwarf multicannon, the Ogre bow, the Toktz-xil-ul, and the Seercull.

Ranged Armor Sets
Some armor sets are specifically designed for ranged attackers. Many beginning ranged attackers use leather armor since it is both cheap and can be crafted. Another popular armor set is the Snakeskin armor, which can only be used by members. It can be made via the crafting skill using snakeskin. The books and the bandanna are especially popular since they are cheaper than other foot and head pieces.

The most popular ranged armor set is the dragonhide armor. The green dragonhide set is available to free players, although they have to complete the Dragon Slayer quest to use it. Members can use the red, blue, and black dragonhide armor. Players can add fur and gold trim to these armor sets.

Karil the Tainted offered a set of barrows equipment for ranged players as a reward for winning the Barrows minigame. When the full armor set is equipped with Karil’s crossbows, ranged attacks may reduce the enemy’s agility.

1. YEW LOGS ! Note: This is for 60 Woodcutting, but I recommend 65-80 WC for faster money.

Well, for Yew logs all you have to do is to go to Edgeville (if you don’t know where this is, then ask a friend or a Runescape person.) Well. once you’re there, you should go south until the broken house or if you see 2 yew trees. Well, simply get your rune axe and chop the yews. The bank is really close and Yews spawn quite fast ,so this will be lots of money bout 200k an hr. Let me sum it up. *Go to Edgeville. *Find the Yew trees and chop them. *Bank them and after you get 100 or 1000 sell in Ge. 2. Rune essences Note: This is for 1-99 mining 20 mining is perfect for easier and faster money or and you also have to complete rune mysteries. Fishing basics

The main reason to level fishing is that fishing is profitable. But fishing is not the only way to make gil in this game. There are many other profitable crafts like Alchemy, Woodworking, and Goldsmithing, and most of these are a greater source of income in the highest levels than high level fishing. But these crafts also require huge gil investments in order to level them up to the point where they are highly profitable, while fishing merely requires an investment of time. This makes fishing an ideal craft for new players since they start the game with very little gil, but plenty of time.
BUY FFXI GIL
In addition, with fishing you can actually make significant profits while you skill up, unlike the other crafts in the game in which it’s usually best to separate your skillup sessions from your profit sessions. Also, from what I’ve heard the HQs and failures of other crafts can feel a little like a roller coaster, but fishing is more of a steady climb.

In other words, with fishing you’ll never craft a Haubergon +1, but you’ll never lose a Damascus Ingot either, and you don’t have to dump millions into something before it begins showing returns.

Harvesting, excavation, logging, mining, and farming are also popular ways to make gil, but once you locate the logging/mining/mob spawn points and familiarize yourself with the particular area, you are not guaranteed to make any more profit per hour after your 100th hour harvesting/excavating/logging/mining/farming than you made after your first. But every hour you spend fishing will potentially raise your fishing skill, and a higher fishing skill has the potential to increase your profits per hour. What this means is that every hour you spend fishing can be considered an investment.

EverQuest 2

Do what about EverQuest 2?

EverQuest 2 (EQ2) is a fantasy MMORPG developed by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). The game features updated graphics and gameplay from its predecessor EverQuest (EQ).

EverQuest 2 is set 500 years after the storyline of the original EQ game, a time where the fantasy world of Norrath has already been stricken by a cataclysmic event that caused most of the world’s civilization to collapse. Thus, in EQ2 only two main cities remain: Qeynos, the citadel of the forces of good, and Freeport, the stronghold of the forces of evil.

I quit Runescape almost 4 years ago, but i actively play a role in the Runescape economy. How? I own several rares and i often make sure to login and make some money merchant-ing. However, i’ve noticed that from October, 2009 up till today we have seen a steady increase in the prices of rares. Why? I’m not quite sure, usually around this time of the year the rares plummet in prices but we have yet to see that type of trend in the game. Whats even more interesting to hear is that party-hat’s have stayed pretty consistent in prices while Halloween masks and Santa hats have risen tremendously.
Is it possible that the prices of these items are dependent upon the intervention of long time merchants like myself? or is it a natural supply and demand issue?

Making money with the GE

This is the first part in a four part series on GE trading. When the Grand Exchange first opened in Runescape, it ushered in a whole new era of trading. No more sitting in Fally W2 and hoping for items you needed, or begging in banks for some obscure item. It also opened up some huge opportunities for trading and new and more effective ways of making gold in Runescape.

In the first of four posts on making GP with the GE, I will outline some effective trading strategies (Fundamental, technical and speculative), and in the last I will debunk some of the poor strategies (like buy outs for example). If, after you are done reading fee free to post any questions you may have. There is also a forum over at The Grand Exchange (Thegrandexchange.com) where you can register and ask specific questions about trading and the various methods I will outline here.

Part I – Fundamental Trading

First off, I will start by saying that fundy trading is the easiest and fastest way to make money off the GE. It is fairly straightforward, and is based on real stock trading methods. The kind of trade you do also determines which items you will trade.

There are three prerequisites for items to determine if they are a good thing to buy as a fundy trade. They are:

1. The item must be traded in high volume (Anything in the top 100 most traded items list is good)

2. The item needs to be used up in the process of skilling (People use them up in large quantities)

3. The price graph must be relatively straight (little volatility)

The goal with a fundamental trade is a 5% profit. In general, buying at 2.5% below med and selling at 2.5% above will accomplish that. Done on a consistent basis, you will see your money double every 14 trades. (See the rule of 72 for further study of the reasons for that).

Why high volume? You need lots of buyers and sellers. Items like gold leaf, for example, are used in the ‘value chain’ of making gilded items in construction, but there are so few traded on the GE that it is nearly impossible to make money off them. Teak planks on the other hand are traded in huge volumes, as well as being used far more frequently in skilling.

Finally, why a straight line? You don’t want to choose an item that might jump down after you purchase it. Coal is another example. It is used up in large quantities, and is the 19th most traded item, with 97 million chunks of coal trading hands yesterday. With a 4 hour limit of 10k coal, it is impossible to manipulate, as it is not a matter of purchasing power or GP at that point. You would need a clan 20,000 members strong buying and selling 10k coal each to even make a dent in the price, and no one has anywhere near those numbers, not to mention all of the coal miners would keep pumping cheap coal into the GE to offset any attempted price increase.

An example of value chain for Rune Essence: Rune ess is mined, air runes are crafted, water blast is used to kill an NPC. The final product is a drop that you can either bank or sell (or leave on the ground). Either way the ess is converted and finally used up in the process. Why does it remain flat? As rune crafters skill, they buy rune ess when it is cheap and mine it when it is expensive, keeping the price relatively stable.

As a beginner, once you go through the initial work of finding some items, you can continue to trade them without constant checking of the prices in the GE, making fundy trading ideal for those who either don’t have the time or the inclination to check the market regularly. 90% Of my trades are fundy trades, as I can pull a 5% profit in 5-6 hours. That beats the pants off the return you would get with a buyout clan that only makes 5% every time the GE updates (26-30 hours).

There are in fact a lot of ways to make money on Runescape as a F2P account, but many of them are time-consuming to be able to start doing, below I’ve listed skills and tactics to be able to make money.

Combat

Fighting high level enemies means you can get high value drop, my personal favourite is the cockroach soldier in the stronghold of security, but I recommend being around level 70 with food. Cockroach soldiers drop quite a few rune items which are worth a fair amount, e.g. Rune scimitars which sell for around 35k on the Grand Exchange.

Other good enemies to kill are Lesser Demons (Found on Karamja), which occasionally drop Rune med helms which give around 10k with high alchemy,  Ankou (Found in stronghold of security) and Greater Demons (Found in deep wilderness). Another weaker alternative is to kill Hill Giants, which always drops big bones which can be collected and sold for quite a lot of money.

I would highly recommend Cockroach Soldiers though but you need to be a high level to kill them.

Mining

This is a very profitable skill, especially when you reach coal or better yet, level 60 mining which allows you entry to the mining guild which also has 5 mithril ore deposits which can also be mined for profit. This becomes even more profitable after reaching adamantite ore and it sky-rockets once you reach runite ore which sells for around 12k each. Sadly the only place to mine runite ore is deep into the wilderness and there is only one rock, so many miners world hop because it takes a long time to respawn.

Smithing

This is profitable at most levels as long as you’ve mined the ores yourself, otherwise at low levels isn’t very profitable. At higher levels it becomes much more profitable and again, reaching rune will definitely help you as many items are still in heavy demand.

A good tactic I’ve been using lately to make upwards of 200k an hour is to buy nature runes, mithril and coal ores on the Grand Exchange and with a fire staff, use superheat item (requires magic level 43) and make mithril bars, this provides an easy profit whilst also gaining you both smithing and magic experience.

Fishing

I personally find it very hard to make a profit whilst fishing but it is easily achievable by selling lobsters (cooked or raw) and swordfish (again cooked or raw), this is rather time consuming but is best done on Karamja. Personally I sell them raw as it saves time and reduces the risk of burning a fish and therefore not being able

to sell it.

Cooking

A good method for this is to get level 55 cooking and buying plain pizzas and anchovies off the grand exchange and then using them to make anchovy pizzas which sell to make an easy profit on the grand exchange. This is a fast method to make money without having to do much at all.

If you need to get your cooking level up, a good method is to buy raw trout in bulk from the grand exchange, and then cook them to get cooking experience, when you sell them back you make a very small loss, around 1-2 gold for each trout but this money is made back easily by making anchovy pizzas.

Magic

(Look at smelting for tips on how to use superheat item for profit.)

Another method is to use telekinetic grab (telegrab) (which requires magic level 33) on the Wine of Zamorak found north of Falador, the best way to do this is with a staff of air and 28 law runes, when you have 27 wines, drop one and use telegrab then you should have no law runes and should be able to pick up the one you dropped on the floor.

To level magic quickly, get rune essence (either buy it or mine it) and login to world 16 and go to the air altar and find someone to assist you who can do 6x air runes (the higher the better), buy a fire staff and collect mind runes from Lumbridge castle and finally auto-cast fire strike on the lesser demon in the Mage Tower for easy experience.

Runecrafting

This only becomes profitable after level 44 when you can get 5x air runes, buy (or mine) rune essence and take it to the Grand Exchange, then just make continuous runs from Varrock West Bank to the air altar and get a lot of air runes and sell them back on the Grand Exchange.

If you don’t want to spend so long on getting a high runecrafting, then be a runner instead, go on to world 16 and go to the air altar and find someone to assist you who can do 6x air runes (the higher the better) and simply sell the air runes.

Woodcutting

Train until you can cut down yew logs, this takes a long time but can yield high profits, so stick with it as it is usually worth it – that’s all there is to woodcutting really.

Other Tips

When buying and selling, make sure you log how much you buy and for what prices. It’s very easy to make a loss when you’re not watching prices properly and it can be very hard to make back the money you lose.

Always look for a bargain, if someone offers you a good trade, take it and then sell the item for its normal price, it’s easy to tell if you are getting a good deal by looking at the wealth meter during trades or by looking at an items grand exchange price.

Preparing for Battle
You will need a variety of items to successfully kill the Tormented Wraith. They are listed below:

What To Bring:

Required: Full black armour and Weapon – see the setup pictures for what combinations to use specific to each attack style.
Required: Jennica’s Ring – this is required for accessing the Spirit World portal!
Prayer Potions – Without prayer, you will not survive for very long! You don’t need to take a large amount, as the wraith commonly drops them.
Salve Amulet(e) (Melee only) – Use this or its unenchanted equivalent as your amulet if possible. Its advantages are extremely helpful!
Super Attack and Strength, or Ranging Potion – Be able to do as much damage as possible.
Nature and Fire Runes/Fire Staff – The wraith drops a number of black items that accumulate in your inventory. It is best to High Alch these to make some extra cash.
REQUIRED BLACK ARMOUR

For your armour and weapon setup, you MUST be wearing black items in the helmet, chest, leggings, weapon, AND shield slots in order to be allowed to attack the wraith. The slots that require black armour or weapon pieces are highlighted in the picture below.

Permitted Items in Each Slot:

Helm: Black med helm, black full helm, elite black helm
Chest: Black chainbody, black platebody, elite black platebody
Legs: Black platelegs/plateskirt, elite black platelegs
Weapon: Black darts, black knives, black dagger, black hatchet, black claws, black battleaxe, black spear (2h), black sword, black longsword, black scimitar, black warhammer, black 2h sword, black halberd (2h) and poisoned equivalents
Shield: Black sq shield, black kiteshield, black 2h weapon (counts as both), black defender
Free choice: Cape, Necklace, Gloves, Boots, Ring

It is possible to use the Elite Black equivalents that are obtained during the While Guthix Sleeps quest. The elite black platelegs give less negative attack bonuses to magic and ranged than their normal counterparts. Two-handed black weapons DO count as taking up both the hand and shield slots. Note that you CANNOT use black dragonhide armour whether or not you choose to range the wraith.

Magic Setup
Magic Setup

The wraith is extremely weak to magical attacks. Despite the fact that you will be wearing melee armor, it will take damage almost every time you cast your spell. Bolt spells are a cost-efficient alternative to the higher level spells if used with the Chaos Gauntlets.

Helmet: Black med helm > Black full helmet
Necklace: 3rd age amulet > Amulet of fury > Amulet of glory
Cape: God cape (Mage Arena) > Fire cape > Skill cape(t)
Quiver: N/A
Chest: Black chainbody > Black platebody
Legs: Elite black platelegs > Black platelegs/plateskirt
Weapon:Black claws > Black dagger (although you will not be using it)
Shield: None (If using Black claws) > Black defender > Black square shield > Black kiteshield
Gloves: Chaos gauntlets (bolt spells only) > Barrows gloves > Dragon gloves > Rune gloves > Regen bracelet / Adamant gloves > Combat bracelet
Boots: Infinity boots > Wizard boots > Mystic boots > Lunar boots
Ring: Seer’s ring > Explorer’s ring

Melee Setup
Melee Setup

Despite your armour, you will need to use the Protect from Melee prayer to block the Wraith’s attacks. This setup shows how to make the best of the available black armour and weapons.

Helmet: Black full helmet > Black med helm
Necklace: Salve amulet(e) > Salve amulet > Amulet of fury
Cape: Fire cape > Skill cape(t)
Quiver: N/A
Chest: Black platebody > Black chainbody
Legs: Black platelegs/plateskirt
Weapon: Black scimitar
Shield: Black defender > Black square shield = Black kiteshield
Gloves: Barrows gloves > Dragon gloves > Rune gloves > Regen bracelet / Adamant gloves > Combat bracelet
Boots: Dragon boots > Rune boots > Climbing boots
Ring: Warrior ring > Berserker ring > Explorer’s ring

Ranging Setup
Ranging Setup

Depending on your level, it may be more effective to use ranged attacks. Below is the most suitable combination for ranging. Black crossbows and black bolts do NOT work against the Tormented Wraith.

Helmet: Black med helm > Black full helmet
Necklace: Amulet of ranging > Amulet of fury
Cape: Accumulator > Attractor
Quiver: N/A (there are no qualifying weapons that use ammunition)
Chest: Black chainbody > Black platebody
Legs: Elite black platelegs > Black platelegs/plateskirt
Weapon: Black knife
Shield: Black defender > Black square shield = Black kiteshield
Gloves: Barrows gloves > Dragon gloves > Rune gloves > Regen bracelet / Adamant gloves > Combat bracelet
Boots: Ranger boots > Snakeskin boots
Ring: Archer’s ring > Explorer’s ring

Getting to the Tormented Wraith
Use a Glory Amulet or other form of Edgeville teleport to go to Edgeville Bank, and follow the green route. Alternatively, you can teleport to Varrock and run from there (blue route), or use the Bounty Hunter teleport to come via the red route. If you have Ancient Magicks, you can use the Dareeyak teleport to reach the ruins just northwest of the Dark Warriors’ Fortress (purple route).

Once inside the fortress, go into the central outdoor area and stand somewhere in the green square (shown below). Right-click “operate” Jennica’s Ring while equipping it and you will be teleported to the Spirit Realm.

It is wise to have one of your black items unequipped before entering to avoid being attacked immediately after entry. Take your time to prepare inside the Spirit Realm; you are totally safe from the wraith if you aren’t wearing all of your black items. Once you’re ready for the fight, simply wear the item again.

Strategy
As shown in the picture below, simply face the Tormented Wraith head on with “Protect from Melee” prayer active. Use the appropriate boosting prayers for the attack style you are using. Although there used to be safespots for ranging or maging, they were removed from the game in 2009.

If at any time you need to retreat to safety, open the door, walk one square inside, and close it, else the wraith may follow you inside. Unequip one black item in between kills to avoid taking hits by surprise when it respawns. You can exit the Spirit World area at anytime by either climbing up one of the ladders in the castle or leaving through the front door.

Rewards
The Tormented Wraith will occasionally drop a Spirit Shield or sometimes even a Holy elixir.

You can use the Elixir (with 85 Prayer) on a Spirit Shield to create a Blessed Spirit Shield. If you don’t have 85 Prayer, you can talk to Brother Jered in the Monastery, who will charge you a large sum of money for the work. If you don’t want to use it for a shield, you can sell it on the Grand Exchange for a nice profit! For a full list of the wraith’s drops, view the Tormented Wraith Bestiary entry.

Tips and Tricks
The wraith is an excellent source of blue charms.
Since familiars can’t wear black armour, they are unable to attack the wraith.
For low levels, duoing or trioing the Tormented Wraith can be both fun and more efficient!
If you die, remember that you will need Jennica’s Ring to return to your gravestone, so always remember to retrieve it at the Wilderness Farm before going back for your items!
Use crowded worlds so the Tormented Wraith will respawn much faster.
Note that the previous safespots have been removed from the area.
